TYPE: Educational Building
LOCATION: Xing County, Shanxi, China
SITE AREA: 8800 square meters
PROJECT STATUS: construction drawing completed

The concept origins from the traditional building theory in China. It was widely accepted that architecture should be in harmony with nature in ancient time. As a result, courtyards are always interspersed among buildings. Similarly, buildings are interspersed in the garden, and thus to establish a unique spatial form which consists of architecture and nature.
In the project, diversity of space experience is mainly attributed to walls which surround and separate the whole space, such as courtyards, classrooms, platforms and reading rooms. The blurry boundary on walls makes series of space flows and permeates, and thus cultivate unlimited possibilities from regular space forms. Students can enjoy sunshine while reading and experience art feast while wondering in courtyards. Due to 6 meters natural height difference, a terrace is set besides the stadium and a sunken open-air theater is built to transfer natural height difference into a positive factor in design.
Apart from teaching space, there is diverse communication space and green space, which helps to motivate students’ thirst for knowledge and access to nature. To sum up, we attempt to make the Library and Art Integrated Building become a portal of the school.
